The Inaugural Challenge was shortened to 18 holes after the rain washed out round one. To provide the field with challenge of the format, holes 1-9 were four-ball and holes 10-18 was aggregate score. The Mid Am Senior Team Challenge is a uniquely formatted event where the two man teams must have one person be at least 50 years of age and the other partner must be at least 21 years of age. The teams play 36 holes of team scoring; 18 holes four-ball; and 18 holes aggregate. Teams could choose if they wanted to play the Open Division or the Players Division (gross and net scoring). The designated mid am partner plays from a longer set of tees than the Senior partner.
“Although the weather dealt us bogey and we could only play 18-holes, overall the Challenge meet our expectations,”stated Steve McMillen, KCGA Executive Director. “We wanted to start a team championship that was different than what other golf associations were doing. As a result we came up with the mid am – senior concept, which brings together golfers of different age groups to play together as a team.” “We are pleased with the reaction of the players and see this event growing in popularity and becoming a tradition of our Association.”
